Taking a moment to give thanks for a man who played an influential role in the lives of many. Dean Hawkins made it his personal business to motivate me to continue, and made sure I had the resources I needed to do it. As amazing as that was for me, I tear up thinking about how many of my peers he help in the same way…any way he could. Whether it was a scholarship or money from his own pockets, a good talking to or a phone call in your favor, Doc was diligent in making sure his students - his children - stayed on track and excelled. He made miracles for us. If you didn’t know the meaning of “Excellence with Caring”, you knew it after a visit with Doc. When I think of him, I can’t help but think of the rest of my J School family - all the educators who work so hard everyday to prepare us for an ever changing field, and all the beautiful people i met along the way. Rest in Love, Dean Hawkins; I can’t say thank you enough. @rachelann_moore @pharaoh_jenkins @ayohollywood @hesaprince @tony_buhlohnee @fort_negrita @holdenblk @yolo_omololo @radio_champ @willipegomez @agoldenbrown @awindom1 @lana_jay @theahnomaly @theblackkevinarnold @thetabulouslife @doss_theboss @therealbyronj @supernova360 @rebelinstinct @ludus_the_rocket_scientist
"What’s the best way to connect to your ancestors? Just be sincere.” The universe and the Spirit world hears one language, he added. The language of sincerity. Be open and honest about what you need and what you’re going through. And don’t ever refer to your loved ones in spirit as dead. They are alive and well and are very much aware of the latest events in your life and what you’re doing right now. Thank them for their love and guidance and know that they’re always available to you."

If grandmothers around the world had a rallying cry, it would probably sound something like “You need to eat!”

Photographer Gabriele Galimberti’s grandmother said something similar to him before one of his many globetrotting work trips. To ensure he had at least one good meal, she prepared for him a dish of ravioli before he departed on one of his adventures.

“In that occasion I said to my grandma ‘You know, Grandma, there are many other grandmas around the world and most of them are really good cooks,” Galimberti wrote via email. “I’m going to meet them and ask them to cook for me so I can show you that you don’t have to be worried for me and the food that I will eat!’ This is the way my project was born!”

The project, “Delicatessen With Love”, took Galimberti to 58 countries where he photographed grandmothers with both the ingredients and finished signature dishes.

He acted as photographer and stylist during each shoot with the grandmothers, taking a portrait of both the women and the food they made for him.
From top to bottom:
Inara Runtule, 68, Kekava, Latvia. Silke €(herring with potatoes and cottage cheese).Grace Estibero, 82, Mumbai, India. Chicken vindaloo.
Susann Soresen, 81, Homer, Alaska. Moose steak.
Serette Charles, 63, Saint-Jean du Sud, Haiti. Lambi in creole sauce.
The photographer’s grandmother Marisa Batini, 80, Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy. Swiss chard and ricotta Ravioli with meat sauce.
Normita Sambu Arap, 65, Oltepessi (Masaai Mara), Kenya. Mboga and orgali (white corn polenta with vegetables and goat).
Julia Enaigua, 71, La Paz, Bolivia. Queso Humacha (vegetables and fresh cheese soup).
Fifi Makhmer, 62, Cairo, Egypt. Kuoshry (pasta, rice and legumes pie).
Isolina Perez De Vargas, 83, Mendoza, Argentina. Asado criollo (mixed meats barbecue).
Bisrat Melake, 60, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Enjera with curry and vegetables.

I just love how proud they look. It fills my heart with joy.

grandma food is the best food

This is too sweet! It makes me miss my grandmother(she passed almost 3 years ago), after I moved to North Carolina from Ohio, whenever, I’d come home, she would have a dinner waiting for me. As soon as I’d walk in, she’d say, “I love you, take off your coat, put your bags in the front room, and eat.” Damn I miss that. Grandmother’s season everything with EXTRA love.
